OBERTAUERN SKI AREA

The snow bowl of the Alps.

Obertauern lies at 1,740 metres, nestled between the peaks of the Radstadt Tauern. This setting makes it one of the most snow-sure ski areas in Austria: according to a 2016 study, Obertauern is even the country’s snowiest winter sports resort, with an average maximum snow depth of 264 centimetres.

The season usually starts at the end of November and runs until early May. Especially in March and April, when the days get longer and the slopes quieter, Obertauern really shines.

FOR FAMILIES

First turns, nice and relaxed.

Children learn to ski right outside the hotel: the nursery lift is just a few metres away, and the CSA Grillitsch ski school has its office in the hotel.

Right here on the Kehrkopf, our own children’s adventure awaits: the Monsteralarm. On the easy slopes 7a and 7b, kids team up with Bobby and his friends to chase away a snow monster that wants to eat all the snow. And because the runs back to the hotel are blue, even the little ones can ski all the way to the door in the afternoon.
