At home in the Obertauern region for five generations
THE HUBER FAMILY
Long before anyone thought of building a hotel in Obertauern, our ancestors were farming the valley below in Untertauern. Since 1952, our family has also owned the alpine pastureland in Obertauern, which is still farmed every summer, right around the hotel. It was here, in 1997, that Johanna and Franz senior opened the Glöcknerin. They named it after the 2,433-metre peak that rises above our region.
Today, Nadine and I run the family-run hotel as the second generation. Our farming roots still shape the way we host. We roll up our sleeves, we think in decades rather than seasons, and we never take this place for granted.
For us, sustainability was never a trend to follow. If you come from farming and forestry, you treat the woods, the water and the land in a way that lets the next generation live from them too. Much of what is held up as best practice today has simply been how we do things for decades.

The Glöcknerin is a family business in the truest sense. Johanna and Franz senior are still here every day, and our children are growing up somewhere between reception, the ski room and the indoor pool. So you're not checking in with a chain. You're staying with a family, one that often gets to know its guests over many years.
And if you spot Franz senior heading out at first light in winter, he's most likely off to feed the deer. Hunting and wildlife care have been part of our family for generations, and you'll notice it in many little details around the house.

Wood has been part of our family's life for generations, so it's no coincidence you'll find it everywhere at the Glöcknerin. Since 2008 we've built in solid timber wherever it's technically possible, and today more than half of our rooms and apartments are made this way. You can see it in the exposed roof beams and the wooden furniture. You can feel it in the indoor climate too, which is just what you want after a long day on the slopes.
